With its industrial and commercial past, the city of Le Havre sometimes offers great opportunities for the conversion of professional premises into atypical living spaces.
Generally discreet behind innocuous facades, these properties often reserve nice surprises.
It is in this context that a well-inspired architect decided to innovate by transforming an old forge at the back of the courtyard into a 116 m2 duplex loft of modernist inspiration.
Located between the Ormeaux sector and the Danton district, recently renovated, this surprising apartment is hidden behind a beautiful old building from the beginning of the last century.
Its access through an imposing and traditional carriage entrance does not suggest the original choices made by its designer.
Indeed, the initial surface area was finally divided into two different and autonomous living spaces: on one side, a duplex of 89 m2 and on the other, a studio of 27 m2, simply separated by a single partition, in case the desire came to join them.
Once the door of the duplex is crossed and its cellar left on the left, the corridor offers a perspective on a multitude of plays of light penetrating the largely glazed walls of the ground floor and crossing the peripheral glass slabs of the floor of the first floor.
A first bedroom exposes to the view its pretty white wall relief by its flint structure and its warm exotic wood parquet.
The second bedroom claims a particularly original industrial spirit with its high bed and, below, a small office space sunk into the waxed concrete slab.
This ground-level level also accommodates a bathroom with shower in an unexpected decor of a wooden cabin and, right next to it, a separate toilet.
The feeling of being in a truly unique place is largely confirmed by discovering the upper floor.
The 34 m2 floor area is divided between a living room-lounge soaked in light thanks to a clever glass roof and a kitchen open to the rest of the room.
But, one of the most attractive criteria of this property remains, without a doubt, this planted terrace of almost 20 m2, perfectly sunny and directly accessible from the living space.
For its part, the adjoining studio has nothing to envy its neighbor, in terms of originality.
The entrance takes up the spirit of the original courtyard with its exposed flint wall, while now being a room in its own right.
A high interior glass facade, very graphic, delimits the living space including a dining or living area and an open kitchen in a recessed part of the floor, topped with a platform that can accommodate a bed.
The whole is completed by a shower room with toilet cleverly integrated into the back of the studio.
Intended until now for rental, this double apartment ideally requiring some refreshments has all the qualities necessary to seduce both city dwellers looking for a place to live out of the ordinary and investors looking for original and attractive rental properties.
In the immediate vicinity of all the services that the city offers: transport, shops, schools, university, this modular loft apartment, with its assumed character is truly an incomparable product, corresponding to people or projects that are obviously non-conformist!
