Nestling at the foot of Mont Saint Odile, the village of Klingenthal (literally 'valley of blades') takes its name from the establishment of the first Royal Bladed Arms Manufactory. Situated on a 1.4 hectare site, of which 50 ares can be built on, the castle was built in 1732 on behalf of the Manufacture's contractors. Currently used for events, it has a surface area of 1,000 m2 and numerous outbuildings.
The carefully tended parkland is enhanced by a pond fed by the neighbouring Ehn River, which was once used to operate the swifts needed to make weapons. From here, a few steps lead up to the main entrance with its overhang supported by ancient columns. The entrance hall, with its period stonework and extensive woodwork, takes the visitor back to another century. It leads to the caretaker's quarters, a fully equipped kitchen for events, a first reception room and two bedrooms.
A superb staircase decorated with wrought iron leads to the various floors of the house, including the basement with its vast vaulted reception area warmed by a monumental central fireplace. The first floor, entirely fitted with solid parquet flooring, includes a small lounge, a very beautiful reception room and two bedrooms. Finally, the second and last floor serves the other rooms of the castle, of which there are 22. Within the park, the 4 former grinding workshops represent a potential for further development, while the former stables now house visitors' cars.
Particularly well suited to hosting guests and organising events, this place steeped in history has preserved its charm of past centuries. It will delight lovers of old stones who are looking for a place to develop their projects.
