This "original" on Professors' Row in Hyde Park is located on the most beautiful one-way block of Greenwood. These distinctive brick and stone homes were developed in 1903 by Samuel E. Gross, and the architect was J.C. Brompton. This gem of a location is stolen out of storybooks. Surrounded by a cascade of trees, you feel like you're in the country, not the city. It's an extraordinary place that grabs hold of you; many live their entire lives here. Rarely do these treasures become available. Stepping into the foyer, you're immediately drawn into the living and formal dining rooms with 10 ft ceilings, an original wood-burning fireplace, and an adjacent rounded parlor room bathed in natural light from three windows. The open, spacious kitchen offers a separate eat-in area. A full bathroom on the main floor makes this an ideal layout. The grand staircase is flooded with natural light from the skylight, leading to three spacious bedrooms + an office, and another full bath. Many original details throughout include wood trim, doors, and hardware. All can be revealed and restored to the original. Closet space is plentiful in each room. Outside, you step onto your private deck off the kitchen overlooking your deep backyard and separate 2-car garage. Easy access in and out of the garage as it opens onto Berkley Street. The full height, unfinished basement features side-by-side laundry. This stunning vintage home is one of only 20 in Hyde Park and has been owned by the same family for 60+ years. This is an 'As-Is' Estate Sale. I don't have guaranteed information, but to the best recollection, most windows were replaced in the early 2000s, the furnace in 2006, the water heater and electricity were updated in 2015, and appliances were replaced in 2017-2023. This is a fantastic opportunity to revive a unique piece of history. The location can't be beat and is within walking distance of the University of Chicago, Hyde Park shopping center, restaurants, parks, beaches, and public transportation.
